How to get to Príncipe
The São Tomé to Príncipe flight, what we know about schedules and reliability, the cargo-boat option, and whether a day trip makes sense.
Fly. The scheduled São Tomé–Príncipe flight takes about 40 minutes. Book it as soon as your international flights are fixed, spend a night in São Tomé on either side, and expect the occasional delay.
The flight
STP Airways publishes an inter-island schedule with morning and afternoon rotations between São Tomé (TMS) and Príncipe (PCP), and flight-tracking sites show the route operating through 2026. Afrijet has also been listed on the route. Third-party schedules disagree on exact times and frequencies, and the airline’s own page is undated, so we check the current timetable for your dates rather than publishing times here.
Flight trackers show delays on this route are not unusual. Weather, especially in the rainy season, can also cause changes.
How to protect the rest of your trip
- Never connect same-day from an international arrival onto the Príncipe flight, or from Príncipe onto your flight home, unless there are many hours in between and you accept the risk.
- Book flights before rooms on Príncipe, so your nights match the actual flight days.
- Reconfirm a day or two before flying. Schedules can change at short notice.
- Pack light. Small aircraft can have tighter baggage limits; check yours when booking.
- Carry cash for Príncipe from São Tomé (see money).
On arrival
Príncipe’s airstrip is a short drive from Santo António and from the hotels on the north of the island. Arrange your transfer in advance: most hotels offer one, and taxis or drivers meet some flights, but you do not want to be negotiating with no signal and no cash. See getting around Príncipe.

Quick answers
How long is the flight from São Tomé to Príncipe?
About 40 minutes on the published schedule. The route is roughly 160 km and has been flown with small turboprop aircraft.
Can I visit Príncipe as a day trip?
On days with a morning departure and an afternoon return it is technically possible, but you get only a few hours on the island and a delay can strand you overnight. We recommend at least two nights, and three or more if you can.
Is there a ferry to Príncipe?
There are boats between the islands, but they are irregular, mostly cargo vessels, slow (reports describe an overnight crossing of around 13 hours) and not designed for visitors. We do not recommend planning around them.
How much does the flight cost?
We have not verified current fares. Older travel guides quote around US$150 return, but fares change and we will quote the actual cost for your dates.
